JIM STERANKO’s Supergirls posters (R1996-1973) - ILLUSTRACTION GALLERY’S BLOG 1st BIRTHDAY (Part 4)
Jim Steranko is one the most revered Comic book artists. Not only he has created among the most creative pages of the late 60’s and 70’s including ones for Captain America and the best ever Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D stories but he is also a major encyclopedia of the medium, having published many books and magazines about Golden Age heroes and artists.
In 1973, he created for his own company a 12 page calendar dubbed Supergirls which was only available to purchase via mail order. Each month was graced by a sexy or half naked feminized version of a famous hero (Batman, Captain America, The Phantom) or of already famous heroines (Sheena, Supergirl..) and is a masterwork of Comic and erotic art with all the fantasies young men have when they read comic books
In 1996 the 12 images were reprinted for the San Diego ComiCon without the dates. The 12 images and the original Calendar can be found here.
